Instructors

Mr. Mike Shorey is married with 4 children, and 6 grandchildren. Mr. Mike Shorey studied childhood development and education while in college and he is currently a Manufacturing Engineer at DRT Holdings in Midland, NC. He served our country for 6 years in the United States Air Force (USAF). His first exposure to the combat arts was part of the USAF hand to hand combat training program. Mike became an instant fan. He received his first black belt in 1992 in an art form known as Poekoelan Tjumindie; an Indonesian form of Kung Fu. In 2015 was certified as a C.O.B.R.A Self Defense instructor. He has been with Lake Norman Taekwondo for over 8 years. Under the teachings of Grand Master Dang, an 8th degree Black Belt, Mike has risen to the rank of 2nd Degree Senior Black Belt and is certified as a Level 4 Instructor by Taekwondo America. Mike is also a certified Tai Chi instructor. Mr. Mike Shorey is a lifelong Martial Arts student!

Mr. Jacob Shorey was born, April 8, 2006.  Throughout his life Jacob has participated in many sports, academic challenges, music and art, and started martial arts at age 6. Mr. Jacob Shorey started Taekwondo America in September 2012, at the age of 6, and over the years he has risen to the rank of a 3rd Degree Decided Black Belt and is certified as a Level 3 Instructor. In 2015 Jacob was trained in C.O.B.R.A. Self-Defense. Taekwondo has been the perfect vehicle for personal improvement in mind, body and spirit. Over the course of his training under the teachings of Grand Master Dang, an 8th Degree Black Belt, Jacob has become more confident and disciplined. Mr. Jacob Shorey feels it is an honor to be an instructor and enjoys being able to share with other what he has learned. 

Shreya Kolhe has been doing Taekwondo since 2012 and has been an instructor since 2020. She is currently a 2nd Degree Senior Black Belt. She enjoys being an Instructor at Lake Norman Taekwondo as well Shorey’s Taekwondo America.  In her free time she babysits for a lot of families in her neighborhood, she is very active in all things physical fitness and she loves spending time with her family and friends. 

Sasha Chuchkova is 18 and has been doing taekwondo at Shorey's Taekwondo America since 2021. She is a 1st-degree Black Belt and became an official instructor in 2024. She enjoys the perseverance that comes with taekwondo, as well as training others to do their best! Outside of taekwondo, she is a full-time student getting ready for college. Her three favorite activities, besides taekwondo, are camping, drawing, and reading. 

She loves learning from others and hopes to one day be someone others can learn from!

 Adithya Nair Kaitheri has been dedicated to the practice of taekwondo since 2015, beginning at the age of five. In 2024, he progressed to the role of level-one instructor, where he now mentors’ students ranging from ages 3 to 14. Under the guidance of Mr. Mike Shorey and Mr. Jacob Shorey, Adithya has earned the rank of 2nd-degree Decided Black Belt and is recognized as a Level 1 instructor. His commitment to the sport has led him to achieve multiple national tournament victories. In addition to his taekwondo accomplishments, Adithya is the vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Bailey Middle School, where he has garnered numerous national and state-level accolades. He is also actively engaged in fitness, swimming, and volunteering for various honor society initiatives. Adithya strongly believes that taekwondo is an exceptional martial art, that fosters discipline and has significantly contributed to his personal growth and maturity.
